Selecting homeschool curriculum can sometimes feel like an overwhelming task. I remember back in 2010 when, as total newbie to the homeschool world, I started trying to decide what curriculum to use.

I felt scared that I was going to mess up and pick the wrong one. I was overwhelmed with the thought that my child’s education was in my hands and I wanted her to have a positive experience. I was confused because there were (and still are) so many great options out there to choose from.

I just wanted someone to tell me, “Use XYZ curriculum. It will be the perfect fit for your family.” Unfortunately, that didn’t happen, so I had to keep researching. As I continued to investigate what was available to me, I found myself coming back to Sonlight over and over again. It resonated with me and was so appealing to our family’s personality and learning style.

After months of researching and praying about the best fit for our family, I determined Sonlight would be the best option for our family. We purchased the kindergarten aged multi-subject package to start our homeschool journey and we have never looked back. We have used Sonlight every year since.

I am passionate about sharing with other moms how awesome Sonlight has been for our family. Sonlight has been such a blessing to our family and I am so glad I took the leap of faith to try it that very first year of our homeschool journey.

I want to share with you three reasons why we use and love Sonlight, maybe it will help you in your search for the “right fit” curriculum for your family.

#1- Sonlight uses literature based learning!

This may not sound thrilling or exciting, but just hear me out. This is my FAVORITE thing about Sonlight. They use a TON of literature books to make learning come to life. Let me give you two examples of why I love this:

Sara Kate (our daughter) is studying American History this year. She has learned the facts and figures of the Civil War era (pre- and post-) in her history books, but she is also reading biographies and historical fiction books that make the time period come to life and stick in her memory.

She may not remember the year the war started or how many soldiers each side had, but she does remember what the world looked like and what the culture was like and what hardships people went through and overcame. She will remember this time in history in a greater way because the novels vibrantly color in the black and white facts and figures of history.

Secondly, she recently read a biography on Herriot Tubman and midway through she came to me and said she could not read the story any more. I asked why and she said it was just too sad and to hard for her to learn what the world was like then. What a PERFECT opportunity to stop and share with her what the reality of the world is really like.

I love that these novels are teaching moments (no, not educational teaching moments, LIFE teaching moments)! I want to take every opportunity to discuss real life issues and talk with my children, preparing them for adulthood. These literary works open the door for non-awkward conversation and help me to be intentional with my children.

#2- Sonlight gives you everything you need to teach including a pre-planned lesson plan.

One of the things that overwhelmed me as a new homeschool mom was the thought of having to pick out and plan each lesson from scratch! (Some of you may love that and I applaud you!!)

The thought of doing that stresses me out, but Sonlight alleviates that stress by sending me everything I need: books I need, science experiment items, math manipulatives, a VERY thorough lesson plan (down to notes on what to say), and so much more!

I feel like I can just breathe and enjoy teaching my children without the added stress.

#3- Sonlight offers a Love to Learn, Love to Teach™ guarantee.

This is kind of like buying curriculum insurance. If you purchase an All-Subject Package or History/Literature/Bible Package you can use it (REALLY use it, write in it, etc) for 18 weeks (even if it takes you a year) and then return it if you don’t like it.

Wow!! Isn’t that an awesome way to confidently purchase?!

See what the Sonlight website states:

Each complete Sonlight® All-Subjects Package and History / Bible / Literature package comes with our Love to Learn, Love to Teach™ Guarantee. Take a full year to use half (18 weeks) of the program. At any point during those eighteen weeks, if you decide Sonlight isn’t a good fit, ship it back to us and we’ll return your money.
This guarantee also applies to anything you purchased at the same time as a complete All-Subjects Package or History / Bible / Literature package, such as Math and Science.
Our guarantee provides incredible flexibility. If you try a program and realize it’s not the right level, you can return it and purchase a different level that fits your family.
We know of no other homeschool curriculum provider with a guarantee as comprehensive as this. Try a complete Sonlight package, and take up to a year to see if Sonlight is right for your family. Find your curriculum today!

I have confidently referred my friends multiple times to try Sonlight. I can also confidently recommend Sonlight to you.

I love answering questions and helping people who might want to know more about my experience with Sonlight.
We plan to stick with Sonlight until the end of our homeschool days, unless something happens where we need to rethink our game plan.

I’d love to help you if you are struggling to decide which homeschool curriculum would be best for your family and you want to talk about Sonlight.
