***Names are important. We all know that names express and create an immediate response in our minds. If we hear a name that brings a negative thought or memory, we automatically dislike it or have a distaste for any association with the name. As I began planning this blog I wanted to come up with a name that reflected the essence of what it means to be a woman of strength and beauty who follows hard after God. After much prayer and thought, Homefront Lilies was born.***

Being a homemaker (one who manages a home, family, job(s), marriage, finances, meal planning, etc.) is tough! It can be stressful and can suck the life out of you. It can feel like, at times, you are standing in the squelching heat of a 110 degree day with no reprieve in sight. Your day can sometimes feel like you are getting stomped on and beat down by those around you or other circumstances that surround you. Sometimes you might even feel like your joy is fading as you try your best to serve those around you.

On the other hand, being a homemaker can also be rewarding and beautiful. It can produce amazing fruit and results that applaud your hard work. Sometimes your efforts are praised and you feel like you are making a difference in the world. Every now and then, the mundane routines are sprinkled with laughter and fun that help replace the dread of  “required work” with new motivation.

As I thought about the life of a homemaker, (remember, a homemaker is even women who work outside the home but still manage a home. . . so every woman is included) the lily flower came to mind. It is beautiful yet strong and hardy. I began to study the lily to find out more about it and found the meaning of the word, lily, means pure and it is a symbol of devotion and beauty. I also knew the lily is mentioned in the Bible multiple times in reference to something precious and beautiful.

Not only is the lily a beautiful flower, it is also a very hardy and tough plant once it has established itself in the ground. Lilies come in a wide variety of colors, they also thrive in different environments, and bloom at different times of the year.

As women (homemakers) we are just as diverse as the lily is in all its 90 different species, yet we are all beautifully made by our Creator, God, and given what we need to thrive on our own home front. Lilies are beautiful and tough flowers, and so are we in our journey as homemakers. We withstand the stress and “harsh climates” that homemaking tends to bring, yet there is something beautiful about each one of us in how God has created and gifted us to thrive and blossom where He has planted us.

I have created Homefront Lilies for the very purpose of encouraging you (and reminding myself) to do the following. . .

1.Trust the Lord in all things.

2.Be faithful and content where God has “planted” us.

3.Commit our way to God, allowing Him to use us and work in us for His glory.

(These three things are found in Psalm 37:3-5.)

I do not have all the answers, nor will I ever have all the answers, but I do know living the life of a homemaking is so much easier when you are surrounded by encouragers to cheer you on.

Homemaking is tough, but so are you, my friend! Let’s journey together to find strength and beauty as we seek to manage our homes well.
